The beautiful Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria holds a five star ranking and sits on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. With Michelin-starred dining options, a boutique spa, and gym, there is no shortage of luxury.
The Grand Hotel hotel has deep rooted history in Sorrento. When the hotel was founded, Italy was not yet a unified nation. In fact, it sits in the same area of Roman Emperor Agustus’ villa, where he enjoyed the same beautiful views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. The Fiorentino family was one of the founding families in the Sorrento Peninsula and opened the hotel doors in 1834. The fifth generation of the family continues to manage the property today, allowing the luxurious tradition and history to stay alive. Inside, you will find a unique fin-de-siecle style of sophistication, decadence, and wealth. This style reached its peak in the late nineteenth century, but continues to be appreciated by visitors in modern times. At it’s time, the hotel was considered a modern masterpiece as it was one of the first establishments to offer such first-class hospitality.
The interior is filled with vintage furnishings and carefully crafted decor originating in Sorrento.
Due to the opulence of Vittoria, celebrities from all over the globe have sought a vacation here. These include Italian Icon Sophia Loren, Richard Wagner, Empress Sisi, Marilyn Monroe, and other world renown political and social figures. With its location conveniently located in Piazza Tasso, Marina Piccola and Corso Italia are short walks away. There, you will find high-end restaurants and alluring shopping.
No detail is spared from entering to welcoming staff, a 20,0000 square foot flowering garden, and each room decked with marble pillars and hand painted frescos.
When it comes to food and drinks, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is the place to be. Chef Antonino Montefusco works alongside a team of highly trained culinary experts to create a culinary experience for all guests. In fact, all ingredients used in the restaurants are bought locally from artisan suppliers. This brings a certain freshness to the food that can’t be found anywhere else. This dedication to high quality dishes has earned the restaurant Terrazza Bosquet a Michelin star.
The restaurant looks out onto the coast of Sorrento allowing for customers to enjoy sunset views accompanied with a refined, one of a kind culinary experience. The menu is a combination of regional and Mediterranean cuisine and changes throughout the year depending on what ingredients are in season. A vegetable garden within the hotel is the source for key produce that is used in every dish. Natale Sicignano, the sommelier, prides himself in choosing the perfect wine to pair with whatever dish you choose. The wine is stored in an ancient Roman cave that contains a wide array of options from local wines to wine from major world wineries. The hotel also is home to L'Orangerie, a more informal poolside bar and restaurant. During the day, guests are able to enjoy some of Sorrentos best pizza, fruit salads, and fresh gelato in a comfortable setting. At night, the bar transforms into a luxurious lounge area that serves dishes tapas style. They are known for their international wines and unique cocktails. Lastly, Terrazza Vittoria looks out onto the Gulf of Naples and is perfect for guests looking for a more relaxed experience. The restaurant specializes in local flavors with some Neapolitan and international specialties.
Weddings at Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria are nothing short of exquisite. Bride and grooms have the ability to hand pick each detail on their momentous day. Welcome guests to Vittoria with a gorgeous reception on the grounds. This will feature stunning Italian floral arrangements, hand-selected wine and spirits, and a personalized menu. The menu will be developed by Chef Antonino Montefusco with the help of the couple to ensure it fits their aspirations. Ensure the day goes smoothly by utilizing Vittoria’s pre-wedding spa and hair services, along with babysitting services. Vittoria also offers professional wedding specialists that will assist the bride in planning every detail of the day. This will allow for a memorable day without stress or distractions.
Overall, me and Katie truly enjoyed our visit to one of the most historic hotels in Sorrento. Simply walking through the hotel grounds, you can feel the luxury and opulence with beautiful architecture and the stature of guests. Anyone who has the ability to experience this beauty and hospitality should consider themselves lucky. We hope to return in the future as guests instead of observers!
